The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) starts on the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Moreton Bay from 1 January 2019. The NDIS is a new way of providing children with a disability and their families with more choice and control over how, when and where support is provided.
The scheme supports people with a permanent and significant disability to take part in everyday activities. This includes people whose disability is an intellectual, sensory or physical impairment, or a psychiatric condition.
Under the NDIS, people who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to access supports that are related to their disability in order to live in the community and work towards their goals and aspirations. People will have choice and control over their disability supports.
Once the roll-out is completed in 2019, the NDIS will be solely administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
